New York fashion Week trends: 2010 – 2011 (PART ONE)

Along with following starlets walk the red carpet at the recent BAFTA Awards in London, Screen Actors Guild Awards and of course the Golden Globes over the past few weeks (I’ll be blogging about my favourite celeb styles soon) – I’ve been keeping my beady eye on the latest trends from the catwalk in Bryant Park New York.

Recessionista

Yes the recession is still on everyone’s minds – even though figures globally have improved, designers have kept some of their designs low-key and budget-friendly (relatively!), as well as the cut and silhouette of garments clean and uncluttered resulting in awesome garments. The emphasis was on ‘the investment’ piece made from superb fabrics in a classic shape.

I love Carolina Herrera’s take on this trend with her classic slacks (above).

Draping

Nothing says feminine like deluxe draping and swathes of fabric expertly placed to create fabulous silhouettes. Yes I know we’ve seen it before – but who cares when it looks so utterly beautiful and luxe?! I love Doo.Rim’s take on this trend (below -left) superbly crafted and what cinches the deal on this trend? It covers a multitude of flaws!

Nudes

We saw it in summer, and yes nudes are back with a vengeance in the winter collections as well. In this case nudes include tonal grey, beige, cream and charcoal – all those lovely hues that can be incorporated seamlessly into your existing wardrobe. This colour palette is perfect for those days you have no idea what to wear… who doesn’t have those?

I love the draping on this design by Wayne (you can get something similar from Trenery at Woolworths) and for the more adventurous – this body-con dress from Herve Leger (below)– it’s pure glam!

I’ll keep you up to date on the latest trends from NY Fashion week in the coming days…
